The Staff of Hospice Maui utilizes the Care For the Journey CD in Staff Training. The Staff was asked: “Is the Care For the Journey CD useful? If so, how do you plan to use it?” Their responses:
- Stay open and love. Stop. Pay attention. Take care.
- Listening to the CD before my work day to center my thoughts and emotions-
also listen to it in car between patient visits.
- Wonderful reminders of how powerful our work is for all of us!
- Hit home on what we do and receive everyday. Increases our awareness!
- Very helpful - a lovely reminder to go back to Spirit to keep our hearts open.
- To retain or find the balance between openness and compassion and 'clinical' detachment.
- Remembering who I am and why I came to this work amidst the paperwork and deadlines.
- Good reminders about the importance of being fully present- 'Spirit to spirit'.
- It is so job appropriate- especially for us nurses in the field
- As a constant reminder to be present.
- Listen to it myself and pass the message on through actions
- Being present, connected, at peace
- Our brokenness is our strength
- Reminders, recovery, encouragement, pausing to think, connecting and re-connecting
- Gentle, easy to hear
- Use periodically to stay in touch with our humanity, spirit, etc.
- Variety of messages- excellent- something very touching for everyone.
- I can apply this with my patients and family.
- It's a good refresh about the work we do.
- May be applicable also for use by patients
- We used this in our Contemplative Care program.
- It opened up good discussions, like "what is healing?"
- Good reminders, and validation for the difficult work we do.
- For the clinical team as a way to take care of ourselves
- Sharing the CD with other RNs
- Use in training our staff and volunteers
- For myself to remind me to stay clear
- We will be doing a training re: "caring presence"- this will help a lot.
- It would be helpful to listen from time to time as a reminder of how to be present to connect
- Use in a group setting in hospice or other healthcare settings.
- Have first year nursing students learn good eye contact and the valuable 'gifts' of connecting.
- Very helpful for all hospice and healthcare workers
- Listen in car while driving
- Group sessions; private listening; nursing students
- Useful for other helping professions (psychologists, therapists).
- Will get my own copy and suggest to others it's value for personal use.
